RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research interests lie in observing and explaining adaptive differences in human body size in the context of life history theory, and to identify the ecological and cultural selective pressures behind the evolution of human diversity. My doctoral research focused on human pygmies in the Philippines. Since they are at the extreme of human body size variability, their phenotype may also be a product of extreme adaptive strategies. Currently, I am working on the evolution of small body size of pygmies with a relatively independent evolutionary history- in Papua New Guinea and in the Philippines. My aim is to understand the evolutionary mechanisms involved in the determination of their Phenotype, and the genetic basis of their life history singular traits.
